As Sylvester Stallone continues to put the finishing touches to his screenplay for his eagerly-awaited Expendables sequel, a surprising (and that's an understatement) piece of casting news for the new film has leaked out.
According to a source close to the production, joining the returning cast of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren will be none other than teen singing sensation, Justin Bieber.
Bieber is apparently set to play Stallone's long lost son in the film, whom the team of action heroes have to rescue. But, it seems, Bieber's character will be no slouch when it comes to the action. In an effort, too, to broaden the appeal of The Expendables franchise, Stallone and Bieber are reportedly penning a duet that will be played over the end credits to the film.
It's a surprising turn of events, but it transpires that Stallone has been a fan of Bieber's music since the young singer burst into the spotlight a few year's back.
Furthermore, a source close to Bieber's representatives has spoken about the desire to "man up" the young singer's image. Meanwhile, Lionsgate is beliebed to be looking for Stallone to ultimately pass the mantle over to a new gang of Expendables for the third movie, and it's keen to cement Bieber as the new face of the action franchise.
Bieber is an unlikely figure, granted, to be appearing in such an action ensemble, but it's hoped that the change of direction for him will open up fresh career paths. And Stallone, it seems, is clearly confident that Bieber is up to the job.
You never know, it might just work...
