Demi has some serious role models — but she thinks The Runaways starlet has the best career in Tinseltown!
Demi Lovato doesn’t always plan on being a Disney darling. She’s slightly changing her look and plans on tackling more ‘adult’ roles — all so she can have a career like Dakota Fanning’s!
“I feel like I’d like to do a feature film, branch into more roles that aren’t expected of me,” the 18-year-old starlet told HollywoodLife.com exclusively during a phone interview. “I feel like I don’t want to go too edgy, I don’t want to go too family friendly – I’d rather just play normal teenage roles. I think Dakota Fanning does a really good job at the roles that she picks, so I kind of want to go down that route.”
Although she’s young – just 16 – Dakota already has 28 films and several TV shows under her belt, including starring roles as rocker Cherie Curie in The Runaways, badass vampire Jane in the Twilight Saga films and Brittany Murphy’s young ward in Uptown Girls. She’s evolved as an actress and taken on consistently challenging roles, never typecasting herself.
In fact, Demi already has her next career moves mapped out – and from the sounds of it, she’s trying out a career like Dakota’s! “I’d love to d a feature film next year,” she told us. “I have the ones that I want in mind. It’s just a matter of finding time because you’re with the Disney Channel, you don’t get a lot of free time to just go and do whatever you want. Ten months out of the year last year I was shooting Sonny With a Chance and then I went straight from that to touring. So, when I do get free time, I think I’ll be excited to just be able to explore and do whatever I want.”
Although she recently shot Camp Rock 2 with ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas (and happens to be on tour with him as we speak!) she has some slightly different co-stars in mind for her future roles. “I’d die to work with Angelina Jolie. She is an incredible actress!” Demi gushed, adding, “Her or Winona Ryder, because she has always been one of my favorite actresses. ”
As for BFF Miley Cyrus, Demi said, “I don’t really hear much about the comparisons any more. We do our own things.”
