Selena Gomez: I want my songs to mean something

Selena Gomez has trouble getting her most “personal” thoughts onto paper.

The 17-year-old actress is the lead singer of Disney band Selena and the Scene. She writes all her own songs and tends to focus on matters close to her heart.

She enjoys writing about love and relationships, but admits she sometimes finds it hard to get her thoughts out of her head and onto a piece of paper.

“Of course,” Selena said when asked if she suffers from writer’s block. “Sometimes I have something going on in my head and I want to write it down, but I just can’t get it out. If that happens, I go and listen to music or do something else and return to it later.”

Selena writes most of her music based on her own experiences, but sometimes gets inspiration from her friends and family. She even occasionally uses stories she has heard on TV or in magazines.

“I definitely draw on things that have happened to me or it’ll be something I’ve heard a story about, or that someone close to me is going through. Most of the time, it’s something personal,” Selena told Top of the Pops magazine.
