Nick Jonas Fights Against Diabetes

Little Jonas recently teamed up with the pharmaceutical company Bayer to promote a new blood-sugar meter device.

The teen singer, who has been battling against diabetes since he was 13, appeared on a TV ad, playing his guitar while promoting Bayer’s new digital device. The device has a built-in convenient USB port and promises to help track glucose levels over the course of a day.

Nick was told he had Type 1 diabetes and his brother Joe commented, “it was the scariest thing ever.” Joe remembered that, “we went swimming one day and I could see his back and bones.”

Nick told a television show, “I lost 15 pounds in two weeks, weighed 115 pounds - I went down to 100.”

Nick told that he still has to test his own blood sugar and wears a pump on his back, which delivers insulin into his bloodstream. He expressed his experience through a written song, “A Little Bit Longer.”

At just 17, the teen sensation provided an encouraging saying, "We can share what we've learned so far and hopefully let other young people with diabetes know it's going to be all right, they can live out their dreams and do what they want in life, even living with diabetes."
